New 936 Movement Spotlight on: Drastiko Rawdriguez

For more than a decade Drastiko Rawdriguez has released underground music that focuses on life experiences rather than cars & clothes. This earned him respect in the streets but didn't lead to the kind of success that many artists dream of. Then Drastiko received the stamp of approval from one of the greatest rap writers of all time, Houston's K-rino & all of a sudden underground enthusiasts all over the country tuned in & realized they had been overlooking a unique talent. As he prepares to release a new album, we wanted to know more about the artist who has his own definition of success & his own way of achieving it.

Q. Who influenced or inspired you?

A. My father inspired me to keep creating music since I started making music at the age of 12. He blessed me with this natural gift it’s in my DNA.

Q. How long have you been in business/performing?

A. I’ve been creating music for half my life now but when we speak on album. it was in 2011 officially when I put my foot in the business all the way in. I’m Still an underground lyricist still pushing that reality hiphop music.

Q. Where are you from  originally?

A. I’m from Houston the northside of town. I’m from the Houston heights neighborhood not the gentrified neighborhood you see today. But that’s where I grew up at and attended elementary thru high school at.

Q. What sets your art/business apart from others?

A. What sets me apart from others is my music it’s different from what you normally would listen to especially today. And how I communicate with others and I remain humble and authentic.

A. My biggest obstacle has been surviving this life. Life isn’t easy for anyone especially when you come from the bottom of the barrel. We don’t get any handouts we grind for what we have and want.

Q. Any words of advice?

A. Never stop believing in yourself. don’t stop hustling be Authentic and positive at all times. Time will roll in your blessings when it’s your turn.

Q. How do you balance your art/business with your family life?

A. I’ve always put family before my art we got to take care of home first at the end of day. That’s what matters to me I’m not competing with anyone but with myself everyday trying to be a better me. And continue to put out the music I enjoy making for my people. That’s what keeps me going speaking life situations into these tracks it’s my therapy.
